2 Film Preservationist Openings, Missouri History Museum


Epsilon-Dalzell Premier Film Preservationists

The Missouri History Museum seeks temporary full-time Film Preservationists for a grant-funded project. This project runs from October 2017-September 2020.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Completing secondary inspection—including further observation; measurements and documentation of damaged or deteriorating film; and remediation and repair of damage, cleaning, leading and labeling film) on film currently vaulted off site
  • Creating new catalogue records and creating artifact condition reports for the film collection in the Museum’s Collections Management System, Mimsy
  • Processing backlogged film—including inspecting, leading and labeling, cleaning, housing and rehousing canisters
  • Updating shipping and receiving digital inventory in Excel
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in broadcasting, film/video production, history, or related field
  • MA or Certification from a recognized film preservation program
  • Experience performing film inspections, preservation, and restoration in a film archive, audiovisual library, or recognized film processing/restoration laboratory or media center
  • Ability to operate all types of equipment associated with reviewing, inspecting, and preserving film
  • Thorough knowledge the film editing process and current best practices in film preservation processes
  • Ability to plan, organize, and carry through on film preservation projects
  • Accurate recording of data, excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-driven and be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to handle large, heavy and fragile materials; reach shelves up high and down low; utilize stairs (mobile and stationary), and operate a pallet lifter
