Vice President of Finance

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is currently considering applicants for the position of Vice President of Finance.  The Vice President of Finance reports to the President and CEO and is a key member of the Museum’s senior staff helping to fulfill the Museum’s mission – to engage, teach and inspire through the power of rock and roll.  They lead talented staff and are responsible for the financial operations of the Rock Hall. They will oversee finance, accounting, facilities, risk management and will deliver sound analysis for use in key decision making by the management team.  They interact with partners, trustees and donors and work closely with the CEO and senior leadership team.

      1.    Lead and inspire a talented team by setting a clear vision for the division.  Set annual goals for each team member, solve problems as they arise by providing on-going professional development and ensure the team is fulfilling the Museum’s strategic goals.

·         Ensure that the activities of the department are in line with the Museum mission and mesh with the operations of the Museum.

·         Evaluate current procedures and practices for accomplishing activities and functions of division to develop and implement alternative methods for improvement of work.

·         Regularly assess staff performance and the department’s progress in meeting short-term and long-range objectives.

·         Recommend appropriate action to resolve issues.

·         Evaluate performance, provide feedback and conduct performance evaluations.


2.    Acts as a creative and entrepreneurial catalyst for the Finance Division and the Museum, exploring and producing ideas for new financial opportunities, partnerships and programs.

·         Manage and monitor the organization’s cash flow and capital needs.

·         Manage relationships with external banking, audit and tax providers.


3.    In collaboration with others, develop annual budgets and ensure that income targets are met and expenses are kept within budget.  Prepare periodic budget revisions and other financial reports.

·         Provide advice regarding the organization's major financial objectives and Rock Hall's fiscal policies.

·         Provide guidance and expertise regarding current and future financial considerations in strategic planning sessions.

·         Oversee short- and long- term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with the strategic plan.


4.    Develop, implement and ensure compliance with financial and accounting policies and procedures.

·         Manage and monitor of annual operating and capital budgets.

·         Review and prepare internal and external financial reporting.

·         Manage the staff aspects of the Rock Halls finance committee and act as the financial liaison and representative to the Board of Trustees.

·         Interpret operating results as they affect the financial aspects of the Rock Hall and make specific recommendations to result in cost reduction and profit improvement.

·         Monitor all tax and accounting laws as they affect the Rock Hall and ensure compliance.

·         Responsible for all tax planning and management relating to UBIT and private use issues.

·         Responsible for cash management and forecasting including putting in place and monitoring debt facilities.

 Duties include but may not be limited to the above


·         A Bachelor’s degree in Business or Accounting and CPA license is required.  A Master’s degree in Business Administration is preferred.

·         Minimum of 10 years of successful leadership experience in a cultural institution or related field.

·         Demonstrated success working in an environment of significant transformation and change.

·         Ability to add value to all aspects of the organization.

·         Current with latest digital and information technology best practices.



·           Think of the big-picture and consider the impact of decisions across the institution.

·         Understand implicitly how to manage and work with different people and various working styles across the organization.

·         Involve others in decision-making but comfortable leading; avoids impulsive decisions.

·         Encourage teamwork and anticipate and remove obstacles to effective teamwork; seek to resolve conflicts as they arise.

·         Approach others in a positive manner and build solid long-term relationships with key stakeholders inside and outside the organization.

·         Appropriately share information with staff members, ensuring that they and other key contacts across the organization are kept abreast of initiatives, issues, and events internally as well as externally.

·         Involve staff in various processes to share information and provide input on policies and practices; solicits ideas and opinions to help shape specific decisions or plans.



·         Proven leadership and talent development skills which motivate staff members and provide professional growth.

·         Strategic and operational strength through consistent execution, speed, decisiveness, and risk taking.

·         Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.

·         Maintains confidentiality in all assignments.

·         Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and meet deadlines and manage multiple projects concurrently.

·         Ability to successfully pass a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum reference check, background investigation and drug screening.



STARTING SALARY:             Commensurate with experience.  (Full-Time/Exempt)
