The Eldred WW II Museum & Learning Center Board of Directors is seeking an Executive Director to manage the Eldred WW II Museum & Learning Center an established museum located in northwestern Pennsylvania.

The Museum Director will be responsible for all aspects of museum operation, including: 1) resource development through grant writing, annual fund promotion and other philanthropic development activities; 2) promotion of the museum to diverse local, state-wide and national audiences through marketing, membership, special events, publication, social media, and outreach activities; 3) fiscal management, including proper accounting, bank transactions, and related duties; and 4) daily operations and maintenance of the museum, including exhibit gallery space and collections storage, to ensure proper upkeep of the facility and service to patrons.

Job Description/Summary of Responsibilities:

The Museum Director will—

·       Promote the museum to diverse local, regional and national audiences through marketing, membership, special events, publications, social media and other outreach activities.

·       Develop resources through grant writing, annual fund promotions and other philanthropic development activities, including building relationships with other museums, foundations, businesses and corporations, and individual donors.

·       Manage fiscal responsibilities, including proper accounting, bank transactions, and related duties.

·       Develop exhibits and educational programming.

·       Develop and implement a system for collection management, including the arrangement and description of artifacts and archival and administrative records.

·       Oversee daily operations of the museum to ensure proper maintenance of the facility and service to patrons.

·       Work in conjunction with the Board to develop the strategic direction and establish initiatives to increase local, state-wide, and national awareness and prominence.

·       Manage and lead staff, which may include part-time help, interns, and volunteers.

·       Serve as spokesperson and chief advocate for the Museum.

·       Enhance the Museum’s public image to expand interest and support.

·       Direct the overall marketing initiatives.

·       Manage, secure and maintain the property and facilities of the Eldred World War II Museum & Learning Center.

Preferred Qualifications: Minimum education required is a Bachelor’s degree. Training in Public History/Museum Management preferred.

Ability to provide strong leadership, vision and strategic direction.

Knowledge of standards and best practices for museums, non-profits or similar organizations.

Possess strong business management skills.

Experience developing and implementing fund-raising campaigns.

Demonstrated excellence in writing and public speaking.

Proven ability to work cooperatively, diplomatically, and effectively with Boards, volunteers, and the region in outreach capacities.

Demonstrated ability to supervise, as well as to work successfully with museum staff, volunteers, and diverse public constituencies.

Excellent planning, time management and decision-making skills.

Knowledge/timely learning of information relevant to the museum’s key exhibits and artifacts.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, web site development, social media, collections management software.

Ability to plan, coordinate updates and changes to existing exhibits.

Ability to manage, document and exhibit collections.

Grant writing experience preferred.

Willingness to work a somewhat variable schedule to include special events and after-hour meetings.

Willingness to travel, occasionally during non-business hours.
